Same Time, More Driving: Why We're Moving to Back-to-Back Lesson Blocks

Big news from Burgess Driving School! Starting this week, all newly purchased behind-the-wheel driving lessons will be scheduled in two-hour lesson blocks (back-to-back 1-hour lessons) instead of the traditional one-hour format. We know this is a change, and change can raise questions, so we want to share the reasons behind it—and why it's going to be a big win for our students.
Better Learning, Faster Progress
Two hours gives students more time to practice each skill without feeling rushed. Whether it's parking, highway driving, or tricky roundabouts near FSU, the extra time means more repetition, more feedback, and more confidence.
Less Time Wasted
One-hour lessons can fly by, with as much as 40-45 minutes just spent driving to and from the practice location (such as the DMV road test site). With fewer pickups and drop-offs, and less time sitting still in rush hour traffic, there's more time spent doing what matters: driving and learning. Two-hour training blocks make better use of everyone's time.
Easier Scheduling
Booking fewer lessons to get the same amount of behind-the-wheel time means you don’t have to rearrange your entire week. It’s especially helpful for busy families and college students juggling classes and work.
Deeper Focus
With two hours, students have time to settle in, get comfortable behind the wheel, and tackle more complex driving environments all in the same session. No more "just getting the hang of it" when it's already time to stop. Plus, we can take a short break between blocks if a student (or the instructor!) needs one - allowing everyone a moment to reset and refocus.
Real-World Practice
Two-hour practice sessions give us the flexibility to drive through residential areas, highways, roundabouts, and downtown Tallahassee all in one session. It's a true reflection of what drivers face after getting a license.
Less Wasted Time Between Lessons, More Slots Available
With our instructors spending less time traveling between lessons, we can spend more time actually teaching students - and for our customers that means more immediate availability and less time waiting for an opening on the calendar.
Existing Customers Will Get Both Options (1 or 2 hours)
We know that for some, 1-hour lessons are what you paid for. That's why if you're an existing customer, you'll have a choice between keeping your current plan, or converting your remaining lessons to our new 2-Hour lesson format. Already have single hour lessons but want to convert to two hours? Let us know and we'll work with you to reschedule and reconfigure the calendar for you! Your satisfaction with our service is our top priority.
At Burgess Driving School, we're committed to giving every student the most effective, efficient, and enjoyable learning experience possible. Two-hour instruction blocks are a step forward in delivering on that promise.
